The Amber Forte | Jaipur India

Kate and I were totally spent and not feeling so hot, but I did want to check out the famous Amber forte in Jaipur, so we haggled with a driver and dragged our exhausted selves to the palace.

And it was worth it. Even though we didn’t even go in (all the Indians around us that noticed that we had just turned around without entering thought we were totally crazy) but we were satisfied with our decision. The great thing about traveling with Kate is that we always seemed to be on the same page at the same time, which is incredible considering we were total strangers.

Surely, the inside is beautiful but I can’t help but think that we took in a lot of the forte’s glory simply by standing there and looking it. And we still had the entire day to walk around near our guesthouse, exploring he tiny side streets and chatting with people, which is something we both enjoyed much more than looking at historical sites.

I’m so glad we did take time to check it out, because I took one of the most epic photos of my entire trip there, and it’s now printed in on large canvas in my living room back in New York. I went to compose a picture when I noticed all at once a huge flock of birds dispersing….
