Sri Lanka’s Surf Towns: Hikkaduwa and Mirissa

Exploring Sri Lanka’s Beaches

After climbing Sri Pada and visiting the UNESCO World Heritage sites Sigiriya Rock and Dambulla, Holly and I headed south to meet up some of her friends in a couple of Sri Lanka southern beach towns – Mirissa and Hikkaduwa.

We stayed at the Palm Villa in Mirissa. It was a splurge for us, but we loved it because we booked huge room with three big beds and balcony. It was fantastic!

Overall, we had the best experience in Mirissa vs Hikkaduwa, but it was mostly because of the experiences we had and the people we met. I spent some time on my own in Hikkaduwa and grew to really like it by the end.

I don’t have a place to recommend in Hikkadwa because we weren’t happy with our accommodation. But if you aren’t carrying much, you can walk along the beach and ask for prices and get a great deal.

Here are my favorites shots from Hikkaduwa. Near this sign is the place to be and the restaurant in from of it has the BEST handmade granola and yogurt. I ate it sometimes three times a day!!

The only picture I really took in Mirssa are from the first night. As soon as we arrived, our friend Diane said she had met some people and they convinced us to play a game of Centurion drinking game. Woof! We had so much fun getting to know new people from all over the world… but needless to say, none of us felt great the next day!
