35 Stunning Photos of Antigua Guatemala + Travel Guide

Antigua Guatemala Travel Blog

I’m a week into my five week Central America adventure as I write this. I started my trip with a night at the Houston Airport, and my time there was extended even further when United Airlines offered me a $500 travel voucher to delay my flight another 10 hours. Fine by me, I just scored a free round trip ticket to somewhere!

I was a bit nervous about arriving in Guatemala City late at night, as I had heard the $10 shuttles to Antigua stopped running at 10 or 11 pm. However, I asked some other travelers if they were going that way, and in the end, I shared a taxi with two others and it only cost me $10. My hostel had quoted me $40 to come pick me up, so I faired well by taking the risk and sorting it out myself. If you are arriving late in Guatemala city and you want to save money, I suggest teaming up with other travelers and not booking anything in advance.

I stayed at the Yellow House for my one and only night in Antigua. I payed $25 for a nice room with a view (seen in the first photo of this post). It was a bit more than I planned to spend, but I didn’t want to stay in a dorm room and I conveniently booked it on Hotels.com while sitting at the airport. I was planning to spend at least 3 days in Antigua, but after a full day of walking around, I felt like I’d seen the town and could move on to the lake.

Planning a visit to Antigua? Here are the top 3 blog posts I came across that helped me during my research.
