Johannesburg

I almost missed my flight, but two Nigerians saved my day. It’s a story I don’t wish to recall at the moment, but let’s just say the London tube does NOT start running at 5:30 or even 6, no matter what anyone tells you! After spending only $250 ($150 pounds) the whole time I was in London, I had to withdraw $150 on my last day for a taxi to the airport.

But, I’m here! The Johannesburg airport was much less hectic than I was expecting (I was envisioning the chaos of the Bamako Airport). It was quiet, and I sped through customs, and got my luggage within 15 minutes. PO and his girlfriend found me, just as I was starting to worry that they wouldn’t show up. PO’s girlfriend drove us back to Melville FAST.

I ended up staying in a guesthouse for the night, a bit more expensive than I wanted to pay ($60) but worth it for the luscious night’s rest. It was a private guestroom with a big bathtub, giant bed with white fluffy pillows, and an electric blanket (it’s a bit cool here at the moment) and my own private lounge room. In the states, something like this in such a great location would cost easily $160.

Tonight, I am opting to stay with a couchsurfer, Etienne, with whom I’ve been corresponding. He’s going to let me crash his place this week while PO and I scope out houses and apartments. Hopefully, I’ll find something soon, before Jazz and Alli arrive. At the moment, I’m sitting in a wonderful little restaurant called WISH, with free wifi! PO is on his way to meet me. Let the house search begin.
