South African Music

Right now, the main focus of our business here in Jozi is networking. In the Johannesburg underground arts scene, this involves attending concerts, gallery showings, and parties. Over the last few days I’ve seen some great South African Music. Early in the week we saw PO’s band Kwani Experience play the Moshito music conference, along with the bass player for Chaka Khan, Blondie, and Cyndi Lauper.

Last night we saw a young upcoming band called L8 Antique. These cats are great! The venue, Bridge Diner, was also a treat (one of the few places in Jozi with vegetarian options). And tonight, is the big show. K’NAAN the Somali born, New York york/Toronto based superweight MC. Also on the tab are ZUBZ, Tumi and the Volume, DJ Kenzhero.

Through these events, we are reconnecting with our network and expanding it. Interestingly, our network is mostly BOYZ. The female artists of Jozi are hiding in the woodworks, and we are on the look out. The arts community is small but talent is incredible. Through networking we are getting hot tips on warehouse properties. You know what that means, we’ve started to plot our tiny revolution.
