Marios and Steve chose The Foundry in Long Island City as their wedding venue, and it continues to be my one my favorite wedding venues in NYC.

From the grooms…

We met eight and a half years ago on April Fool’s day at the Phoenix bar in the East Village. We later realized we had been going there very regularly for more than two years, but somehow never saw each other. I was playing pool and Steven and his friends were watching. Eventually I introduced myself…

Our first date was a few days later and it wasn’t going very well at first. We were both a little bored until we started talking about books and realized that we both loved reading science fiction, especially two books by Vernon Vinge we both had read and loved. That was the turning point. We are forever grateful to Vernon Vinge for saving that first date.

After several years together, we had been talking about getting married for a while but wanted to wait until it was legal in New York. After we made the decision to get married, one day we were sitting on the couch, each with our laptops. Steve turned to me and said, “will you marry me?”

I said “yes.” It seemed appropriate for two techie sci-fi lovers like us.
