Public Restaurant Wedding // Jessica + Micheal

Public Wedding NYC

Updated October 05, 2023

Since I started doing weddings in 2010, I’ve had the opportunity to shoot quite a few weddings of people I grew up with in my hometown of Fond du Lac, Wisconsin. In fact, I’ll be doing 3 childhood friends’ weddings next summer. Jessica was an acquaintance of my brother during high school, and at some point after we realized we were both living in New York City, we became Facebook friends. There is an unspoken bond between Fond du Lac to New York City transplants! Eventually, Jessica reached out and asked me to photograph her wedding. Of course it’s an honor to shoot anyone’s wedding, but it’s especially meaningful to document this special day for people I know.

From the bride:
Our engagement was a perfect reflection of our relationship: thoughtful, simple and full of personal touches. We both knew that we would spend our lives together, but the engagement was a surprise to me. It was the day before Thanksgiving, and Michael picked up the ring after a half-day of work. He was incredibly nervous carrying it around as he ran errands for the proposal, constantly checking his pocket as he went to multiple stores to pick up food, flowers, candles and wine. I didn’t get home until 10:00 pm, after a full day of work and graduate class. Michael greeted me at the door, completely dressed in suit and tie. He said that they were having “date night in,” and by the end of the “date,” we were engaged.
