From Shanghai to NYC: A love story that proves home is truly wherever you’re together

Occasionally, I receive inquiries for small, DIY weddings—sweet, intimate celebrations that may not come with big budgets, but always seem to come with big hearts. I can only take on a handful of these each season, but they’re often the most moving weddings I photograph.

Tiffany and LaToya’s story immediately grabbed me. Two adventurous souls who met by chance in South Korea, they weren’t looking for love—but love found them anyway. Since then, they’ve made a life together across continents, with one shared truth: home is wherever we are together. They currently live in Shanghai, but chose to return stateside for a small destination wedding in Central Park. After hearing their story, I knew I had to say yes.

Their proposal story alone was enough to make me cry. Tiffany orchestrated an elaborate, secret scavenger hunt through Shanghai, leading LaToya from clue to clue with a curated playlist, Instagram tags, and heartfelt video messages. It ended at their candlelit apartment, with hundreds of suspended rose petals, glowing tea lights, and the words “Will you be my forever?” on the wall. When LaToya opened the door to find Tiffany waiting, there wasn’t a dry eye in the house—or in this case, the room.

Their Central Park ceremony may have been small, but it carried a world of emotion, history, and love.

Scroll through to witness their day—a reminder that it’s not about the size of the wedding, but the size of the love.
